Ship times can vary with supplier stock; call to confirm before you order.
Call (866) 202-8388 (Mon–Fri, 9 AM–5 PM ET) with your model number and we'll confirm the right replacement and stock before you order.
First: is it frozen, or cracked?
- Frozen but not cracked: the pump hums but moves no water, pipes have frost, nothing is leaking. Turn the power off, warm the area slowly with a space heater or heat lamp (no open flames), then re-prime and test. Many pumps survive a freeze.
- Cracked: a visible split in the casing, water spraying or pooling after it thaws, or a broken gauge or switch tube. A cracked pump casing can't be safely repaired. It needs replacing.
Always turn off the breaker before touching a frozen pump. Running a frozen pump can burn out the motor and destroy the seal.
Replacements we ship fast
Goulds jet pumps
The most common freeze casualty is a shallow well jet pump in a pump house or crawlspace. These usually ship within 1-2 business days:
Casing fine but seals leaking after a freeze? A rebuild kit is cheaper: J5S/J5SH kit, J7S kit, J10S kit, or see all Goulds repair kits.
Goulds irrigation pumps
Outdoor lawn pumps left full of water often crack. These usually ship within 1-2 business days: GT15, GT20, and GT30. See Goulds GT Irri-Gator pumps.
Flexcon pressure tanks
A tank that froze can split a seam or damage its diaphragm. These usually ship within 1-2 business days: Challenger PC66FR (20 gal), PC122 (33.5 gal), PC244FR (81 gal). More in pressure tanks.
Franklin Electric and Grundfos
We carry Franklin Electric jet pumps, Franklin submersible pumps and motors, and Grundfos pumps and controls. Shipping times vary by model, so call us at (866) 202-8388 and we'll give you a straight answer on when it ships.
What else to check after a freeze
- Pressure switch: the small tube underneath often cracks. Pressure switches.
- Gauge and fittings: plastic fittings and brass tank tees can split.
- Foot valve and suction line on jet pumps: a cracked line means lost prime.
- Tank pre-charge: set about 2 PSI below the switch cut-in with the tank empty.
Stop it happening again
Insulate the pump house, add a thermostatic heater rated for damp locations, wrap exposed pipe, and drain anything that won't run all winter. Step-by-step: how to winterize a jet pump. Pump running but pressure low after the thaw? See well pump not building pressure.
Freeze damage by component
| Part | What freeze damage looks like | Usual fix |
|---|---|---|
| Jet pump casing | Hairline crack or split, water weeping after thaw | Replace the pump |
| Jet pump seal | Drip under the motor end after restart | Rebuild kit |
| Pressure tank | Bulged or split seam, water from air valve | Replace the tank |
| Pressure switch | Cracked base or sensing tube, pump won't start or stop | Replace the switch |
| Suction line / foot valve | Pump runs but can't hold prime | Replace line or valve |

FAQ
Can a frozen well pump be fixed?
If the casing isn't cracked, usually yes: thaw it slowly, re-prime and test. If seals were damaged, a rebuild kit fixes it. A cracked casing means replacement.
How fast can I get a replacement?
The Goulds and Flexcon models listed above usually ship within 1-2 business days. Ship times can vary with supplier stock; call (866) 202-8388 to confirm before you order.
Will my new pump fit the same plumbing?
Same-model replacements usually drop in. If you're changing brands or sizes, send us the old model number and photos and we'll check fit before you order.
Do you install?
We sell and ship parts nationwide. For installation, use a local licensed well or pump contractor; many of our customers are contractors themselves.
